Red & Wild is Manchester's annual World AIDS Day Festival that is held approximately ten day before World AIDS Day (1st December). Red & Wild has commonly been referred to as Manchester's "Winter Pride". Red & Wild since its conception has been the brand that raised money for The Lesbian & Gay Foundation and the George House Trust during November and December. Since it's initial creation back in 2004, when it was held as a one night only event at the famous Thompsons Arms up until 2006, Red & Wild raised £1'820.67 for charity. In 2006, Red & Wild became a ten day festival, involving many venues, businesses and organisations across Manchester. Working in partnership with Operation Fundraiser (the Lesbian & Gay Foundation and George House Trust joint fundraising initiative) we raised a staggering £23'785.48 for charity. These funds were distributed by the charities which enabled to keep the Safe Sex Condom and Lube packs free and help those who needed it the most through The Community Welfare Fund. In March 2007, with thanks to the organisers of Pride Games, Red & Wild received it's first ever award - The Proud City Community Champion Award and we were also nominated for a New Statesman Edge Upstarts award. Even though Operation Fundraiser has ceased operations in 2007 after raising an amazing £466,485.00 since 2003, Red & Wild plans to continue to fundraise for the charities and groups that benefited from Operation Fundraiser to ensure the legacy continues. Red & Wild would not be here today were it not for all the hard work, support and dedicated given to us thus far by individuals from all the businesses and organisations across Manchester, especially the support received from The Lesbian & Gay Foundation and the George House Trust. More importantly, Red & Wild would have nothing to sing and dance about if it wasn't for all those that have given generously helping us to achieve such an amazing milestone last year. Thank you!
